I had TONS of comments on last week's newsletter issue. I TRULY apologize that I didn't get each one answered individually. I normally do. But, this was overwhelming.

I'll share just a few of them with you, and answer some of them for everyone. Some have been edited for space.

Before we start - all iCop members who have completed the email check will be hearing from me this week. Please be on the look-out for this update.

The Sweetheart Who was Using iCop's Sales Copy

------------
Hello jl

I think you should make an example out of the %#^%^# who stole your intellectual property. You have many members that would back you 100%. If we do something as an organization then that shows we mean business. I'll be the first to donate to the cause if you need any help.

Best regards,
Mark

Holy Smoly, jl ... I would be tempted to take a contract out on that guy (not literally, but certainly visually).

For what it's worth, this past year, even when my life turned upside down, I scraped up the money to renew my membership in iCop. That's how much I value you and having that seal on my copywriting site.

Even with a solid thirty years experience in direct mail marketing, I have lost a large amount of business to copywriters who are 5th rate because of their under-pricing. So while no one has ripped of my web site or business ... they've ripped off plenty of my writing.

All you can do is keep on keeping on -- as you well know -- and continue to do the spectacular job you do, and providing the invaluable service you provide.

Warmly,
Phyllis

Dear jl,

Although I am unfamiliar with the exact details, I do fully trust you. I also fully trust that 'liars and cheaters' ultimately & irrevocably will receive their due, whatever the path of action is that you choose to take. If there is anything more I can do to assist, please let me know, and I'll do my best. Whether you'll sue or not, I'd report the plagiarizing website at siteadvisor.com. It's at least something. If you want us to do it, or use our account, please let me know.

Marco

Please would you tell me the name of the site this person runs. I think we should out these people.

Morning jl

Excuse me jl, isn't that what iCop is for to ensure online ethical behavior? If I were in your shoes I would sue his ass off! If you let Bozo get away with this, something worse is likely to happen or with another iCop member.

So my opinion is to put on your hip waders and jump in the crap with him. It is not likely to stop on its own. Stuff on the 'net never does!

That is my opinion and I am sticking to it!

Dan

Okay - I only have a couple of things to say about all this.

By the time I published what had happened, this dude had removed *almost* everything from his site that belonged to iCop. It took two weeks, but it got done.

To have reported his name and site at that point would only have served to give him publicity. There was nothing left for anyone to see - it had been corrected.

I probably should have told iCop members BEFORE I jumped on him - and let YOU do it. I'll bet YOU would have had him down in a day! LOL

Please know how VERY much I appreciate all the support I received on this matter!

On Flash Cookies

------------
I just read about the flash cookies on your site today, July 14th, I didn't know anything about them till I read about it and I'm glad you mentioned it. I took all of them off my computer. The invasion of privacy is getting out of hand.

Thanks
Frankie

Hello jl

Somehow or for some reason (not good enough) I didn't read the last Journal 'cause my and my partner's computer was down for about 5 weeks for overhaul. Part of the reason? Cookies - exactly what you are talking about!

Like you and others, the word 'private' is sacrosanct and I do resent having mine invaded - especially when it reaches the point that it affects my whole computer and requires it to be rebuilt programme wise! As a result I'm more and more reluctant to open anything when browsing.

Cheers,
Julian

Hi jl,

Regarding your comments on 'flash cookies' - I checked out the page you referenced and then checked my computer. (:

It was a surprise to discover just how many flash cookies were on my hard drive that I had NOT given permission. (and they were not small files taking up my hard drive!)

Thanks for pointing out the 'flash cookies' issue.

Helen

Greetings,

My tip for a little extra privacy in your online life. Use the www.ixquick.com search engine when you need to search for something online. They only keep your search results for 48 hours, unlike the Big 3 here in America, where your search requests and website destinations are kept for 18 months and longer.

It's a great little search tool and a lot more private than what you're used to. Just put it right on the top of your toolbar and when you need to search for something on the 'Net, just click on it. A small but important step for your online privacy.

Mitch

Hi jl;

You asked for comment on the Flash Cookie subject.

I think you're correct that we've become so used to these 'privacy invasions' that we just don't give it a thought. When I surf the Internet I make certain assumptions; the main one being that I can, and probably will, be tracked. I interpret that to mean that someone can follow me around and will be able to pull information off my computer and put information on it.

Do I have a problem with it? Not really. I know it and accept it.

Tom
------------

So there, you have it. Although I don't like it, like Tom, I pretty much know it's going to happen. I just do as much as I can to prevent it - then, don't worry about it.

First and foremost - and I've been preaching this for nine years - GET RID of Internet Explorer (IE) as your browser!

Use Firefox and download the appropriate add-ons. All the bad stuff is written for IE! And, Mozella (maker of Firefox) has ALWAYS done a fine job of protecting its users.

Physical Addresses vs. P.O. Boxes

------------
jl,

One lady I know has been an internet marketer since the early '90s and had always used her real address, until last year when a man showed up at her doorstep at 10pm just to say 'HI”.

Fortunately the man was harmless, but since then she too strongly suggests not using your real address, especially if you're operating from your home office as most of us do. Thanks for being here and providing a great news letter.

Jim
------------

------------
jl,

I have in the distant past used a P.O. Box as my record of address. Even 15 years ago I didn't feel safe using my actual home address. I realized as I became more observant of website set ups, there were a number of people using actual listed addresses.

I have to agree with you that listing your home address is just asking for trouble. Too many practicing loony tunes out there.

Why tempt fate?
Sheeghna

I am in total agreement when you say we live in a dangerous world. I would be really nervous to have my physical address all over the Internet for every deranged person to know where you and your family can be found. Sometimes I think that even phone numbers should be a masked hyper link so no one knows that actual number.

I know, I know, that is probably going to far. It is just that there are so many people who want to get even with others because they have to blame someone other than themselves to blame for their failures. Thank goodness that there are still kind caring and moral people out there. They are the ones who preserve our sanity.

Joyce
------------

------------
jl,

If I were starting all over, I might use a PO box, but I have nothing to hide and my impression of those who use PO Boxes and other devious methods of "allowing" site visitors to contact them probably do, or at least don't wish to be bothered by their site visitors, even customers.

I wish even more of my visitors would take the time to contact me - it's easy enough to do.

Regards
Richard
------------

I also received a rather lengthy email lecturing me on why we should ALWAYS use our physical addresses on the web sites. She didn't tell me a single thing I didn't already know - nor, that I hadn't been saying to folks, myself, for years.

It always amazes me when someone thinks I need a lecture on how to run iCop. I don't make decisions without serious consideration - and my considerations have to take in the entire world!

However, the majority of iCop members are still here in the USA. And, over the years I've had this organization, many things HAVE changed in this country.

You can now be photographed and/or videotaped and find it posted on any of the “social” sites at any time. And, you have NO recourse to that - at least not yet. I suspect that will eventually be settled by legal action.

Big business can pretty much do whatever they wish online, i.e., flash cookies and site tracking, then, sell your information for advertising purposes.

Google provides both maps to your front door and photographs of any address.

There's more online rage than ever before - and I don't even know why.

Women, especially, are less safe than ever. Try this: if you live in the USA, go to your State's web site. Find their listing of addresses of all the sex offenders - and see how many of them live close to you. THAT will scare the hell outta ya.

Believe me, I KNOW it's more professional to use a physical address. I said so for nearly nine years! But, if it puts even ONE person in danger - that's too many. Times have changed - we have to change with them.

Next week, I'll share a way to use a P.O. Box so it doesn't LOOK like a P.O. Box - for those who are interested. One of our readers took the time to fully research it and send it to me.

I really want to hear from you! Tell me what you think!

Trooper And The Cowboy

A cowboy from Texas gets pulled over by an Arizona DPS Trooper for speeding. The trooper started to lecture the cowboy about his speeding, and in general began to throw his weight around to try to make the cowboy feel uncomfortable.

Finally, the trooper got around to writing out the ticket. As he was doing that, he kept swatting at some flies that were buzzing around his head.

The cowboy says, "Y'all havin' some problem with them circle flies?"

The trooper stopped writing the ticket and said, "Well yeah, if that's what they're called. But, I've never heard of circle flies."

"Well, sir," the cowboy replies, "circle flies hang around ranches. They're called circle flies because they're almost always found circling around the back end of a horse."

The trooper says, "Oh," and goes back to writing the ticket. But, a moment later he stops and asks, "Are you callin' me a horse's a**?"

"No, sir," the cowboy replies, "I have too much respect for law enforcement to call y'all a horse's a**."

"That's a good thing," the trooper says and goes back to writing the ticket.

After a long pause, the cowboy, in his best Texas drawl says, "Hard to fool them flies though!"
